The woman whom is unknown is most probably from an upper class part of Russian society in the 1700s. Clearly a beautiful subject for the original artwork and her beauty is still evident here. Subtlety, like the other works in the series, is somewhat removed by the brash nature of the Butterfly covering the entire face. Yet subtlety still somehow exists, as the warm tones and pallet remain undisturbed.
